National Pavilion of the Kingdom of Bahrain at the Venice Architecture Biennale, designed and curated by Latifa Alkhayat

The Kingdom of Bahrain inaugurated its national pavilion, on 18 May 2023 as part of its participation in the 18th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, Italy, in the presence of H.E Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and Commissioner General of the pavilion.

The Kingdom of Bahrain’s pavilion exhibition titled “Sweating Assets.” Curated by architects Latifa Alkhayat and Maryam Aljomairi. Bahrain Culture Authority has chosen them as the curators of the national pavilion, as they won the Open Call contest proposal launched by the Authority last year.

Latifa Khalil Al Khayat CPISP scholar is pursuing her Master’s degree in Architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA .

The exhibition highlighted the relationship between the extreme heat and humidity that characterizes Bahrain and the inherent need for comfort. The curators aimed to show how the necessary cooling infrastructure can be maximized through adaptive means and resource management while reducing its negative impact on the environment.
